BETHLEHEM, Pa. - An elderly man who wrote in a letter to the editor about Saddam Hussein’s execution that "they hanged the wrong man" got a visit from Secret Service agents concerned he was threatening President Bush.

 

The letter by Dan Tilli, 81, was published in Monday’s edition of The Express-Times of Easton, Pa. It ended with the line, "I still believe they hanged the wrong man."

Tilli said the statement was not a threat. "I didn’t say who — I could’ve meant (Osama) bin Laden," he said Friday.

Two Secret Service agents questioned Tilli at his Bethlehem apartment Thursday, briefly searching the place and taking pictures of him, he said.

The Secret Service confirmed the encounter. Bob Slama, special agent in charge of the Secret Service’s Philadelphia office, said it was the agency’s duty to investigate.

The agents almost immediately decided Tilli was not a threat, Slama said

"We have no further interest in Dan," he said.

Tilli said the agents appeared more relaxed when he dug out a scrapbook containing more than 200 letters that he has written over the years, almost all on political topics.

"He said, ‘Keep writing, but just don’t make no threats,’" Tilli said of one of the agents.

It wasn’t Tilli’s first run-in with the federal government over his letter writing. Two FBI agents from Allentown showed up at his home last year about a letter he wrote advocating a civil war to unseat Bush, he said.

Today it is snowing in Washington DC. I got here yesterday. My plane trip was about 9 hours from Zurich. In Zurich, I arrived at about 8:45 am from a flight from Geneva. I arrived in Geneva about 22 days ago from an airplane from Copenhagen. In Copenhagen I had taken a plane from Alborg. I spent a night over in our little house in northern jutland. The previous day I had taken a plane from that arrived in Alborg from Copenhagen. In Copenhagen, I had taken a plane that came from Washington on Dec. 19 2006 or there abouts. And here I am again, about 23 days later.

Yesterday I went to a restaurant in our court. It is a chinese, hunan style, restaurant.  I had beef and onion, with steamed rice, without hot-peper. My fortune cookie said: With every deed you are sewing a seed, though the harvest you may not see. Lucky Numbers 25,33,128,17,44,5. And on the back, Learn chinesed: Banana Xiang-jiao (and chinese writing of banana).

I had pitza for lunch. It was a large pitza with peperoni and greenpeper, yummy yummy. I’ve gained weight since two years. It feels uncomfortable tying my shoe-laises sometimes when I lean over. I breath harder.

I have never owned a cellphone in my life. I grew up without TV till I was about 11. Computers; I’ve had since I was about 12. I didn’t understand how somebody could spend hours watching TV, but I found out. I’ve found out how to spend countless hours in from of a computer screen, be it a portable or a desktop, as well. 

I forgot to pack my toilet bag when I left. I bought all the things I need. This time I am going to try the electic razor. I’ve never tried it before. It should be good. My uncle in Denmark had one and it seemed to do a good job.

I went to the dentist while I was in France…So you have gone to youre french dentiste euh? yes I have. He is a good dentist and a good human being. We also had another denist a long time ago that lived higher up in elevation and from his cabinet room you could see the mountains outside the window. He was a friendly dentist as far as I recall. I never had any cavities.

Now it is dark outside. .

I found out while looking through a magazine on the airplane over that I could purchase a pinball machine with the Pirates of the Carrabean theme, and a machine that makes two hotdogs and buns which I thought was cool. 

I’m thinking about getting a vapour distiller for drinking water. Maybe it is a good investment. There are scary stories about floride and lead in water…and who knows what else in the water nowadays with pollution?… My uncle told me a story about how the washington dc water was said to be unsafe for infant babies to drink because of lead. Why would they allow lead in the water? As for floride I’ve read that it was bad for the brain. It is in toothpastes, so that is a concern too.
